Why won't my computer shut down?

Ever since I had a technician look at my computer I cannot shut it down. I close the computer and it keeps starting up. What is wrong?

This is one of the most common problems we hear from people, we probably get two calls a week. The reason is when you shut down Windows gives you a choice of options. This is a typical shut down dialogue box.

The problem probably is that the techie told it to restart. The dialogue box keeps the last instruction, all you need to do is change the option from Restart to Shutdown. Not being able to shutdown at all is a much more common problem that we will deal with next week.
